IVC Filters Lawsuit
Speak Your Voice with Our Help
Has an inferior vena cava (IVC) filter caused you or a loved one to experience severe or life-threatening health complications ever since it was implanted? Recent studies and scientific journals suggest that most IVC filters are highly dangerous and pose a threat far greater than the heart conditions they are meant to treat. At Rash Mueller, we can assist you in filing a mass tort or class action against negligent manufacturers of IVC filters, or perhaps against medical practitioners who should have known that the device was unfit for safe use.
Tell us the details of your injuries during an initial consultation.
Defective IVC Filters
The vena cava is the body's primary vein to pump blood from the lower extremities, up through the body, and back into the heart. An IVC filter – a metal contraption that looks similar to a tiny coat hanger with multiple limbs – is implanted within the vena cava where it is meant to prevent blood clots from entering the lungs, heart, and other major organs. Improper manufacturing or implantation of an IVC filter can cause it to fail catastrophically and splinter within the patient, usually without warning and weeks or months after the procedure.
A defective IVC filter may be directly responsible for a patient's:
- Heart failure
- Internal infection
- Leg and stomach swelling
As a faulty IVC filter can tear apart the vena cava or send shards of metal into the heart, consequences can often be fatal. If you are experiencing any pain in your chest after going through a surgical procedure that implanted an IVC filter within your body, please contact a medical professional as soon as possible. You should also be aware that Bard Medical has produced an IVC filter called "Recovery" that has been investigated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for reports of frequent catastrophic failures and consequent injuries. You may wish to contact your physician if you have a "Recovery" IVC filter regardless of whether or not you are experiencing pain.
